The Literary Register (April 4, 1829, Oxford Ohio), 120.
Early Miami publications such the Literary Register printed both poetry and correspondence from anonymous contributors. In 1829, the Register printed a letter in which “Amelia” shares this poem that she explains was written by a “vain and self-important” male poet who, having been spurned as a suitor, composed a misogynistic poem on the “wiles” of women. In her letter, Amelia describes this poem as “really disgusting,” and deserving of public shame.
