The Literary Register<\/em> (April 4, 1829, Oxford Ohio), 120.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Early Miami publications such the Literary Register<\/em> printed both poetry and correspondence from anonymous contributors. In 1829, the Register<\/em> printed a letter in which \u201cAmelia\u201d shares this poem that she explains was written by a \u201cvain and self-important\u201d male poet who, having been spurned as a suitor, composed a misogynistic poem on the \u201cwiles\u201d of women. In <\/a>her letter<\/a>, <\/a>Amelia describes this poem as \u201creally disgusting,\u201d and deserving of public shame.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
